Viscosity Grade Bitumen 30 is categorized according to Viscosity (degree of fluidity) grading. The higher the grade, the stiffer the Bitumen. In Viscosity Grade, Viscosity tests are conducted at 60°C and 135°C, which represents the temperature of the road surface during summer and mixing temperature respectively. The penetration at 25°C, which is the annual average pavement temperature, has been also retained in Specifications.
It is a kind of bitumen, which is produced during the process of oxidation of the vacuum bottom in distillation tower and is categorized based on its viscosity grade. The main common usage of bitumen Viscosity Grade Bitumen 30 is primarily used to construct extra heavy duty Bitumen pavements that need to endure substantial traffic loads. Also, VG-30 is in road construction, waterproofing, building construction industries, and also in cutback bitumen production. It can be used in lieu of 60/70 Penetration grade. It is the most suitable for use in hot and rainy weather conditions and suitable to be used in mild regions.

Viscosity Grade Bitumen supplied by Tavoil is petroleum grade bitumen, manufactured from fractional / vacuum distillation of crude oil, which practical appliance and behavior vary according to its temperature. The Bitumen supplied by Tavoil is produced from the vacuum residue (short residue) feedstock. Viscosity Grade bitumens are specified by the methods described in ASTM Standard D3381–09 and AASHTO M226-80 (2008). Viscosity Graded specifications cover bitumen (asphalt) graded by Viscosity at 60 C (140 °F).

Viscosity grade 10 of bitumens are categorized according to Viscosity (degree of fluidity) grading. The higher the grade, the stiffer the Bitumen. In Viscosity Grade, Viscosity tests are conducted at 60°C and 135°C, which represents the temperature of the road surface during summer and mixing temperature respectively. The penetration at 25°C, which is the annual average pavement temperature, has been also retained in Specifications. Viscosity Grade Bitumen 10 is mostly used in spraying applications such as paving in cold regions. VG 10 is an alternative for bitumen 80/100 penetration grade. It also acts as a feedstock in manufacturing Bitumen Emulsion and Modified Bitumen products.
Viscosity grade of bitumen can be done on original (as-supplied) asphalt binder samples (called AC grading) or aged residue samples (called AR grading). The AR viscosity test is based on the viscosity of aged residue from the rolling thin film oven test. With AC grading, the asphalt binder is characterized by the properties it possesses before it undergoes the HMA manufacturing process. The AR grading system is an attempt to simulate asphalt binder properties after it undergoes a typical HMA manufacturing process and thus, it should be more representative of how asphalt binder behaves in HMA pavements. Table 1 lists key advantages and disadvantages of the viscosity grading system.

Bitumen Primer D41 Description
Bitumen primer D41 is a solvent-based bituminous
primer suitable for general purpose roofing primer used as dressing to concrete, masonry, and metal surface and as a primer coat prior to application of membranes.
Bitumen Primer D41 Applications

Cover Rate
Coverage rate varies from 0.3 ‐ 0.5 kg/sq.mt depending on the application method, surface properties, and condition of substrates.

Preparatory Works
– The surface must be thoroughly cleaned and free from dust, dirt, oil, and grease.
– Bitumen primer D‐41 should be well stirred prior to use and applied to the substrate by means of brush, roller, or spray.
– After application doesn’t leave the primer exposed for more than 12‐ hrs, if this should be the case, apply a further coat and allow curing.
– Tools must be cleaned with any suitable solvents such as gasoline or kerosene.

Bitumen Mastic
Bitumen Mastic Definition
Bitumen Mastic is a type of asphalt composed of suitable graded mineral and asphaltic cement, also to take in proper proportion to consistent mass solid or semi-solid form. when it is heated it is in fluid form and then becomes solid.
Mastic asphalt (MA) is a dense mixture consisting of coarse aggregate, and/or sand, and /or limestone fine aggregate, and/or filler and bitumen, which may contain additives (for example polymers, waxes). The mixture is designed to be of low void content. The binder content is so adjusted that the voids are completely filled and that even a slight excess of binder may occur. Mastic asphalt is pour-able and able to be spread in its working temperature condition. It requires no compaction on site.
On the other hand asphalt mastic – abbreviation AM – is a term used in Europe to describe a mix of sand (that is, without aggregates > 2 mm), and/or limestone fine aggregate, and/or filler and bitumen that is used especially for waterproofing in a variety of applications.

Bitumen Mastic Applications
Bitumen Mastic is used for concrete and ordinary red brick masonry with cement plaster surface is the basic method for the construction of floors, foundation, tanks, etc. To protect the commercial and civil structure of plants and building from corrosive attack acid-resistant brick lining is mostly used, Bitumen Mastic has good resistance to weak, diluted acids, alkalis salts, etc, also used as open mastic flooring for heavy-duty flooring.

Production Process
In the past, that means approximately until 1970, mastic asphalt was often manufactured in mobile cookers (usually at the worksite) that were filled with the various components. By slowly heating them, the components were brought to the right temperature, where the mix-ing device (then mostly a horizontally rotating mixer shaft) served to make sure that the mix was homogeneous for processing. Of course, in this way, no high production rates could be achieved.
Nowadays mastic asphalt is manufactured in (specially designed) stationary industrial plants. These are designed to proportion the materials, dry the mineral aggregates, and mix them in a heat-controlled environment. Application specifications control the temperatures at which material is produced. Typically, in the past, mastic asphalt production temperatures were in the range of 230 to 270 ºC. However in recent years considerable research and investments have been done (and are still ongoing) to lower these temperatures beneath 230 ºC – in some countries even below 200 °C.

What Is Bitumen Roll Sheet?
Waterproofing Bitumen Membrane Sheet Or Bitumen Roll Sheet Or Bitumen Roof Sheet (Here referred to as WPBS) is the best industrial outcome in the area of waterproofing ever attained by scientific and technological advancement. These products enable us to prevent the adverse effects of rain and snow water penetration into structures from their foundation up to the roof. A bituminous waterproofing membrane is used for reinforced concrete roof waterproofing. This waterproofing membrane comes on-site in the form of rolls manufactures and packed in the factory properly sealed.
The specifications and safety manuals of these membranes provided by the manufacturer should be read before the installation process. Fire safety and prevention is the most important while using this membrane.
All inflammable materials from roofs to be removed and good roofing practices should be followed.
The bituminous waterproofing membranes are unfolded on the site and laid firmly on the surface with tar-based adhesives using blowtorches. A layer of bituminous waterproof membrane is laid over the structural roof which acts as a shield against the seepage of water onto the roof. Roof tiles & membrane is applied over the filler material laid to slope to pass the flow of water into drains. A proper slope is necessary to allow the water to flow steadily to drains. These membranes have 2 to 4 mm thick waterproof materials. The membrane should be flexible with elongation of 150 % to cover any small cracks, strong, chemical & UV resistant, flexible enough to take any shape over which it is laid.

C450 was originally a development from the Roads and Maritime Services in New South Wales and was incorporated into the 2012 revision of the national bitumen standard AS2008. C450 has been formulated to meet the viscosity requirements of AS2008 Table 2.2 whilst retaining excellent asphalt workability characteristics. The target applications are asphalt wearing courses and base courses for heavily trafficked pavements.

During sealing operations, it is normal practice to add cutter oil to the bitumen to reduce binder viscosity to a level at which effective wetting and adhesion of the cover aggregate can take place. The quantity of cutter oil added to the bitumen depends upon the pavement temperature, the daily traffic, and the nominal size of the cover aggregate.
